Beauty and the Beast

Learned souls cringe from the light,
Trying to escape the darkness within,
Hiding knowledge that clear sight,
Cannot escape my secret sin.

With conceited hand I seal my fate,
Mystery no longer a choice.
I know what happens; it's too late
For what is your forgiving voice.

Take no blame, the choice is mine,
I have to leave before I taint thee.
That unblemished, soul of thine,
Is too innocent, even for me.
